Deeper and Darker Mod Otherside Dimension Guide
What the Otherside is, how you reach it and how to prepare before entering.

What the Otherside is
The Otherside is the signature dimension added by Deeper and Darker. It extends the Deep Dark into a larger cavernous environment with its own visual identity, resources, structures and encounters. The project source describes it as a major part of the mod rather than a small bonus room or decorative portal destination.
How you get there
Access begins at an Ancient City portal frame. After clearing the portal opening and obtaining the Heart of the Deep from the Warden, use the heart on the reinforced deepslate frame to activate the gateway. If the portal mechanic is the part blocking you, use the dedicated portal guide on this site.
What to bring
Treat the Otherside like a serious survival expedition. Bring dependable armor and tools, food, healing, blocks for safe movement and a way to keep valuable items organized. The goal is not to prescribe a fake “required” loadout; it is to reduce the cost of being surprised in a hostile dimension.
Exploration priorities
Start by learning the area around your arrival point before pushing deeper. Record coordinates, mark paths and avoid sprinting blindly into unknown terrain. The supplied screenshots show dense dark environments where landmarks can blend together, so simple navigation habits matter.
Building and collecting
The mod adds sculk-related blocks and a broader building palette. If your goal is construction rather than combat, use early trips to collect manageable amounts of new material, then return safely. Large resource runs are better after you understand the local threats and route back to the portal.
Updating worlds with the Otherside present
Back up saves before moving between major mod versions. Dimension mods can store generated chunks, structures and block IDs that are not present in vanilla Minecraft. A backup is the most reliable safety tool when testing an update.
